About Zoë!
Zoë has worked continuously as a practising artist for over 20 years, exhibiting across various venues, including North Yorkshire Open Studios. Skilled in a wide range of mediums—from delicate watercolours to expressive oils—Zoë is especially drawn to charcoal and ink, appreciating their immediacy and emotional depth.
Much of Zoë’s work is shaped by the ever-changing landscape — its environmental shifts, ecological stories, and the mythologies woven through it.
Working instinctively, Zoë allows the subconscious to guide her mark-making.
Whether using charcoal, watercolour, or mixed media, each piece begins with curiosity and intuition, evolving organically as forms emerge and dissolve through gesture and texture. Her process is as much about discovery as it is about depiction — an exploration of movement, emotion, and connection.
The intention behind her practice is to spark reflection and awareness, reminding us of our deep bond with the natural world. Each drawing or painting becomes a way of honouring nature — a celebration of the living land we walk upon, created with reverence and gratitude.
For Zoë, wandering through wild places or stumbling upon a hidden tarn is a reminder that we are part of something vast and alive — the rocks beneath our boots, the sweep of the sky, the ancient trees leaning over the water. We are part of nature, and nature is part of us.
Zoë holds a BA (Hons) in Graphics, Media and Communications from Bradford College Art and Design and an MA in Creative Practice (Distinction) from Harrogate College. Alongside her artistic career, she has worked in creative education and design, experiences that continue to inform and enrich her artistic approach.
